German project developer Wirsol Solar AG has started construction of a 64.14 MW PV power plant in the Dominican Republic. The power plant, which the company claims is the largest PV project in the Caribbean, is being installed in Monte Plata province. The first 32.14 MW phase of the project is scheduled to be connected to the grid by the end of this year. Wirsol notes that the Dominican Government provides indirect support for renewable energy projects through favorable tax treatment. In the future, the technical management of this and any new project in the region will be carried out by Wirsol’s local subsidiary, Wirsol Caribbean. © PHOTON
